I was just thinking - should the national anthem be played at sporting contests and why? We don't play national anthem before concerts, at the theatre or many other entertainment venues. It is interesting to note that the national anthem was not played for the most part before pro baseball and football contests before 1942 (at least on league wide basis) - and then it was because of WW2 that the anthem was played at all baseball and football games. (The anthem was played sometimes at games before 1942 -usaully during some world series) Just wondering what your thoughts are on the subject? Personally I enjoy the national anthem before games - especially the guy that does Blackhawk games. That national anthem seems a great way get everybody ready to start a game. But it is interesting to discuss the dynamics of why we play the anthem before sporting contests and not for many other types of venues...
